The crew took off yesterday morning, leaving behind flat South Florida and bound for better surf in Costa Rica. Destination - Terraza del Pacifico and the beach breaks of Playa Hermosa. Rumors of good swell were circulating in the days leading up to the trip, but none of us were really sure of what we'd get once there. For about half of the crew, this would be their first surf trip to Costa Rica.
The flight in was uneventful as was the drive. The weather was good, as was the traffic on the highways, so we made excellent time. We arrived mid-day at Terraza and were greeted by a fading swell still cranking out surf in the head high to well overhead range (probably 6-9 foot faces and bigger on some sets). Everyone was stoked! Costa Rica and a good swell...what more do you need? Everyone surfed the full high tide until dark then it was off to town for dinner.Day 2 - Part 1
We woke up early this morning to find that the supposedly fading swell really hadn't faded all that much. Stoked! It was still cranking out some good sized sets, head high to well overhead, but now it was clean and lining up much better. Half the crew surfed out front while the other half went exploring to see what some of the other breaks had to offer. It was pretty much the same all over except some of the alternate breaks were closing out really bad. We surfed the outgoing tide all morning until the wind came up. Now, it's siesta time until the wind dies down again.
