Costa Rica Trip 2009 - Day 5

By IWS on 5:36 AM
The crew woke up this morning to overcast skies, cool offshore breezes and a near completely faded swell. Surf was in the chest to overhead range with sets two to three feet overhead. Conditions were clean, lined up and super fun. We surfed the outgoing tide out front all morning long.

Today was also preliminary rounds for the Eternal Crown surf contest organized by Jaco Beach Christian Surfers. About fifty of the area's hottest surfers, including Costa Rican National Champion Gilbert Brown, turned up to compete. Tomorrow is quarterfinals and finals with cash prizes of $1,500 American up for grabs in 3 categories.

Mid-day we went down the road again to Esterillos Oeste to score some fun long lines in the chest to head high range on an incoming tide. A small group wandered down the road to go fish and scored a major "catch".

Alex and Scott with their "catch" of the day. Looks like dinner is served.

This evening we surfed out front on a full high tide. Surf was in the waist to head high range with sets a foot or two overhead. It was sectioning out, but turned out to be a fun sunset session nonetheless. After which, we ran into town for dinner at Caliche's Wishbone and Jaco Taco Bar followed by Pop's. Another good day for sure!
